As part of the specialist rotation, students will visit the library for 45 minutes per week.

All students visit the library on a once a week basis, therefore, the loan period for library books is seven days.

Kindergarten students are allowed to check out (1) book per week.

1st Grade students are allowed to check out up to (2) books per week.

If a student does not have their library book(s) to return on library day, they will not be able to borrow more until they are returned.

If a student wants to renew their book for another week, the book will still need to be brought to library class in order to do so. Books may be renewed (1) additional week before they will need to be returned for other students to enjoy.

It is recommended that students store their library book(s) in their backpack when they are not reading them to increase the likelihood that they will have their book(s) on library day. Students will be provided a gallon-sized Ziploc bag for book storage that is labeled with their name, classroom teacher and library day. Please do not throw these away as students are encouraged to use these throughout the duration of the school year.

In the event a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the book will need to be paid for or replaced. Replacement books can be purchased from any vendor of your choosing. Used copies that are in good condition are welcome as replacements as well.

The JMS Library collection can be viewed by going to http://bit.ly/jmslib. Students can also reserve books by logging in with their Milford google account email address and password.

In addition to book loaning and library skills, students are taught to use a Chromebook throughout the course of year. The students are issued school-supplied headphones that they will used for both grade levels while they are at JMS. If you wish to supply your students with a different pair of headphones, you may do so.

In Kindergarten, students begin to learn letter placements on the Chromebook keyboard, how to use the Chromebook trackpad, how to navigate various websites and how to log in to the computer using their Milford School District password. Notices may be sent home periodically detailing login information for websites that the students used in class.

In First Grade, students continue to learn letter placements on the Chromebook keyboard, how to use the trackpad mouse, how to navigate Google Tools, how to navigate the NWEA online testing portal and how to navigate additional various websites. The students are able to log in to the computer using their Milford School District password independently by this time. The goal for the students is for them to work on memorizing this password before going to Heron Pond. Notices may be sent home periodically detailing login information for websites that the students used in class.
