Ms. Kelliher

My name is Kim Kelliher and I am the Reading Specialist here at Jacques. I have always loved literacy and can remember some of my fondest memories as a child helping my mom set up her elementary classroom and enjoying the cadence in my Dad’s voice while he read to me. This love of literacy from early on, paved the way for my future goals. As I enter my thirteenth year in education, I hope to instill that same love of literacy in the students here at Jacques.

Over the last twelve years, I have had experience teaching third grade, first grade, and kindergarten in the Manchester and Merrimack school Districts. I hold certifications in both elementary education and special education. I completed my M.Ed. as a Reading and Writing Specialist from Plymouth State University. This experience has prepared me for my current position in which I am able to support students, staff, and families in the area of literacy.

Speeding To Read

Dear Families,

Jacques Memorial School is participating in an exciting challenge in partnership with the NH Motor Speedway.  Starting March 4th, we will be participating in the Motor Speedway’s Speeding to Read program. The mission of the program is to utilize motorsports, its drivers, and our race as an incentive to elementary school students to read more frequently and enrich their educational experience.

The goal for each pre-k through grade 1 student is to read (or be read to) at least 40 age-appropriate books at home or in school within the month of March.  Books can be read up to two times within the month and count twice. Each chapter of a chapter book will count as one book.

During the month, classrooms can earn rewards for participation such as: extra recess, guest readers, and even a special “Race Day” in the gym with Mr. O’Connell.  Completed logs can be turned in at any time before April 1st. Logs do not need to be fully completed to be accepted. Students who achieve the goal of 40 books will receive a certificate from the NH Motor Speedway.

At the end of the school year two classrooms in the state that had 100% of students achieve their 40 book reading goal will be entered to win a pizza or ice cream party with the NHMS Team at their school!

Good Luck and Happy Reading!
