Reading Curriculum
FUNDATIONS:
 
As a recognized leader in multisensory, structured language programs, Wilson brings more than a decade of systematic and explicit instruction to the K-3 classroom. Based on the Wilson Reading System® principles, Wilson Fundations® provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program. 

Wilson Fundations makes learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for life-long literacy. Students in grades K-3receive a systematic program in critical foundational skills, emphasizing:
 
  • Phonemic awareness
  • Phonics/ word study
  • High frequency word study
  • Reading fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension strategies 
  • Handwriting
  • Spelling
 
The instruction aligns with states’ rigorous college- and career-ready standards, including the Common Core State Standards. 
 
HEGGERTY:
Daily lessons to teach early, basic, and advanced skills such as:
  • Rhyming and onset fluency
  • Isolating final or medial sounds
  • Blending and segmenting sounds
  • Adding and deleting phonemes
  • Substituting phonemes
 
Things to Work on at Home:
  • practice trick words (writing in shaving cream, different markers, in sand, etc.)
  • read to your child every night!
  • play board games 
  • do word hunts around the house
  • practice writing your first and last name
Math Curriculum
KINDERMATH: 

"Units are teacher created, kid-tested, and most importantly kid-approved! It encourages guidance from the teacher while the students TEACH and LEARN math through hands-on and engaging math activities with their partners. RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM
The Responsive Classroom approach to teaching emphasizes academic, social, and emotional growth in a strong school community. We believe that how children learn is as important as what they learn, and that academic success is inextricably tied to building social-emotional competencies. We provide K-8 educators with practical training and resources to help create safe and joyful classrooms and schools where children can thrive.
