news flash
Please join REMIND, the app I will use to send out daily reminders, pictures and classroom updates.  Below is the pdf  "how to" on joining the class app.

Welcome to Room 1003.  First grade is a magical year and I am delighted to have your child in my class!  Below you will find a few things that will help your child (and family) ease into first grade at Jacques Memorial.

BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays will be celebrated in the classroom with a birthday song, sticker, themed pencil and birthday book.  Families are welcome to send in a prepackaged, individually wrapped treat on the date of our monthly birthday celebration as long as it adheres to our district wellness policy and is allergy friendly. Summer birthday students will have a special day set aside in June to celebrate.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH & SNACK/WATER

Breakfast and lunch are offered daily at school.  Breakfast is $1.35 and lunch is $2.50 this year. Students who bring a lunch from home have the option to order a milk (chocolate or plain) as well.  For more detailed information on the school meal plans please visit https://www.milfordk12.org/apps/pages/School-Meals  With breakfast being served at 8:30 and our lunch period at 11:00, our class will have a mid-afternoon snack.  Please make sure your child packs a snack daily along with a water bottle with a flip top or sport top, we do have bottle refilling stations throughout the building.

HOMEWORK

Your child will not typically have mandatory nightly homework outside of any reading or being read to; however, incomplete classwork might also be sent in folders for completion at home.

HOME TO SCHOOL FOLDERS

Please check your child’s blue folder nightly and return each morning.  Students will be expected to pass in folders every morning as part of their daily arrival routine.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Please label your child’s jacket, sweatshirt, backpack, lunchbox, and any other personal items that he/she will frequently bring to school.  It is easy for items to get mixed up or end up in the lost & found.

RECESS

Students will have two recesses each day .  One recess will be held before lunch from 10:35-10:55 and the other will be an afternoon recess from 12:40-12:55.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

SPECIALS

Students will have Unified Arts classes all week from 1:00-1:45.  The schedule is as follows:

Monday: Library/Technology with Ms. Wyka

Tuesday: Building Blocks with Mrs. Burns

Wednesday: Art with Mrs. Jones

Thursday: Music with Mr. Tatara

Friday: PE with Mr. Pearson (please wear sneakers)

SUPPLIES

A sport top/flip top /straw water bottle (with water only), a backpack (without wheels) and a lunchbox are the three essential supplies for first graders.  I am also asking students to bring in a 1/2" or 1" 3-ring binder and broad line Crayola markers.  Crayons, scissors, pencil boxes and a glue stick will be provided for your child. These supplies typically last until after Christmas so I welcome any additional crayons, markers and glue sticks so I can replenish kits mid year.  Tissues, disinfecting wipes and paper towels are also a welcome addition to our classroom supplies but are completely optional.

TOYS & TRINKETS

Toys, trinkets/fidgets, stuffies, Pokemon cards, etc., should be left at home as they create added distractions for all students and risk being lost.  Thank you in advance for your help on this one!

TRANSPORTATION

It is very important that I know how your child is getting home from school each day.   All changes need to be made in the Pick Up Patrol app or a phone call to the office can be made if it is late notice.

Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to getting to know all of my new students and families this year.

  Sincerely,

  Mrs. Mello
