Week 30

Good Afternoon Jacques Families,

We were very excited to welcome back our friends from the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement, a non-profit organization that promotes mental health for children.  The “Choose Love – On the Move'' wellness tour  visited Jacques Memorial School on Monday.  It aims to support the mental health needs of educators, students, families and the community at large.  Please visit the Jacques Memorial School website to view photos from this event.

BIKES for BOOKS  - Bikes for Books is a reading incentive program created by the Masons for children in the elementary schools in order to help support literacy programs in our schools. The Milford Masonic Temple Association, under the direction of Artie Dunham, is sponsoring this program at both the Heron Pond Elementary School and the Jacques Memorial School.

The Bikes for Books program is very simple.  Students are asked to read as many books as they can from now until Friday, June 3rd.  Students fill out an entry form, (JMS Bikes for Books Google Form)  for each book that they read.  The entry form includes the name of the book and the author, as well as the student’s name, grade and teacher’s name.  The student also fills out a short description of the book.  After completing the entry form, please press “Submit”.   The more books they read, the better opportunity they have to be chosen to receive a new bike! While student participation is not mandatory, I am sure that it will support and encourage reading!

VIEWSONIC INTERACTIVE BOARDS  - Several of our classrooms have been outfitted with new ViewSonic interactive boards.  Teachers and students at JMS have found this new interactive technology tool to be highly engaging.  More of these devices will be installed over the spring recess.  The School District was able to purchase these with the use of Federal Elementary Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds.  All classrooms will eventually have these new devices.   Several photos of students and staff using them in classrooms this week can be found on the Jacques Memorial School website.

SPRING RECESS  -  There will be no school April 25-29th.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the JMS families for their continued support. Our school is enjoying a successful year so far with our students learning and playing with energy and enthusiasm every day.  Children, like all of us, have an innate need to be loved and attended to.  I encourage you to use this upcoming spring recess as an opportunity to take a break not only from school, but from other routines that separate quality time together as families.  I love our students and school. That said, I am excited to get away from our daily routine next week. I hope you are able to spend some time together as a family. I look forward to finishing the year strong when we return in May.

Sincerely,

Tim O’Connell
