Week 34

Good Evening JMS Families,

As the last days of school approach, children will be feeling a wide range of emotions including sadness at saying goodbye to friends, anticipation of new adventures, and anxiety about upcoming transitions. Our first grade students will be participating in the annual Step -up Day. Students will tour the Heron Pond school and meet Heron Pond staff. This event is scheduled for Monday, June 13th. More information will follow. We are incredibly proud of our first grade students and know they are more than ready for this “next step” in their Milford School district journey.

JMS ARTS and MUSIC FESTIVAL & FAMILY PICNIC:
We have had several successful days celebrating our Arts and Music programs at JMS.  We have two more events scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, May 26th and again on Friday, May 27th. In the event that the weather does not cooperate we will reschedule the events for Thursday June 2nd.  A phone message will be sent home to families as soon as a decision has been made.

BIKES for BOOKS - Keep Reading!
There is still time to READ!  Bikes for Books is a reading incentive program created by the Masons for children in the elementary schools in order to help support literacy programs in our schools.  Students are asked to read (or be read to)  as many books as they can from now until Friday, June 3rd.  Students fill out an entry form, (JMS Bikes for Books Google Form)  for each book that they read.    The more books they read (or that are read to them, increases the opportunity they have to win  a new bike! A drawing will be held the morning of Friday, June 10th for two boys and two girls to receive a new bike!

FUN DAY
Our annual FUN DAY event will be held on Friday, June 10th. FUN DAY is a special day when our students and staff celebrate the school year and play games and engage other fun activities. We need several volunteers to help make this event a success.  If you would like to volunteer for FUNDAY please click here.

In art class next week students will be making their own colorful tie-dye T-shirt to wear on FUN DAY.  These shirts will be sent home with them on Friday, June 10th as a memento of the school year. To help defray the cost of these shirts we are asking families to contribute $4.00.  Please send $4.00 to your child’s teacher by Friday, June 3rd.

Last Days of School
As a reminder the last day of school for Kindergarten students is Tuesday, June 14th.  Our first grade students will end school on Thursday June 16th.

Memorial Day
School will be closed on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

Early Release
Our students will be dismissed early at 12:45 pm  on Wednesday, June 1st after lunch is served.

As our academic year draws to a close we have much to celebrate and many happy memories. This is a time when we reflect upon the growth and progress of all our students.  Take the time to celebrate achievements made by your student!

Sincerely,
Tim O'Connell
