Week 35

Good Afternoon JMS families,

This year has been, and continues to be, a success due to the collective efforts of all in providing opportunities for our students to succeed and grow.  Thank you for your continued support as we move into this very busy time of year. Here is this week’s update and important information so you don’t miss anything!

FUN DAY

Our annual FUN DAY event will be held on Friday, June 10th. FUN DAY is a special day when our students and staff celebrate the school year and play games and engage in other fun activities. We still need several volunteers to help make this event a success. If you would like to volunteer for FUN DAY please click here.

In art class this week students will be making their own colorful tie-dye T-shirt to wear on FUN DAY.  To help defray the cost of these shirts we are asking families to contribute $4.00.  Please send $4.00 to your child’s teacher by this Friday, June 3rd.

After School Programs

It has come to our attention that several after school care programs that we transport students to are ending their programs prior to the last day(s) of school.  The Hampshire Hills after school program ends today Wednesday, June 1, 2022.  All Boys and Girls Club afterschool programs (Kindergarten Afterschool Program at JMS and the Grades 1-6  Boys and Girls Club After School Program) will end Friday, June 10th, 2022.  If your child participates in these programs, please provide us with your child’s updated dismissal plan for these last days of school.

First Grade Step-up Day

Our first grade students will be participating in the annual Step -up Day.  Students will tour the Heron Pond school and meet Heron Pond staff. This event is scheduled for Monday, June 13th. More information will follow. We are incredibly proud of our first grade students and know they are more than ready for this “next step” in their Milford School district journey.

BIKES for BOOKS - Keep Reading!

There is still time to READ!  Bikes for Books is a reading incentive program created by the Masons for children in the elementary schools in order to help support literacy programs in our schools.  Students are asked to read (or be read to)  as many books as they can from now until Friday, June 3rd.  Students fill out an entry form, (JMS Bikes for Books Google Form)  for each book that they read.    The more books they read (or that are read to them, increases the opportunity they have to win  a new bike! A drawing will be held the morning of Friday, June 10th for 2 boys and 2 girls to receive a new bike!

Report Cards

Parents and guardians will receive their child's final report card on their last day of school.  Included with this report card will be several end of year assessment reports. Please review this important information regarding your child’s academic growth and progress. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the report card or assessment reports please contact your child’s teacher. Tentative classroom teacher assignment for the 2022-23 school year will be written on your child’s 3rd trimester report card narrative.

Last Days of School

As a reminder the last day of school for Kindergarten students is Tuesday, June 14th.  Our first grade students will end school on Thursday, June 16th.

Wear “Green” Day

Students and staff are encouraged to wear green (or the color of their favorite basketball team) in support of the Boston Celtics who are in the NBA championship on Friday, June 3rd.  Go Celtics!

Please find attached to this email several district approved flyers from CAST, Milford Jr. Spartans and the Wadleigh Library

Take the time to celebrate achievements made by your student. It remains important that students put forth their best effort to meet the challenges ahead.  I’d also like to thank all of the parents for being such an integral part of your child’s educational success. As always should you have any questions or concerns please contact me at any time.

Sincerely,
Tim O'Connell
Principal
