Jacques Journal 2021-2022 » Week 36

Week 36

Good Afternoon Jacques Families,

It is so hard to believe that I am writing my final message for my weekly parent update of the school year! It seems like such a short time ago we were welcoming our students on the first day of school. It has been a wonderful school year and our students have made tremendous growth. Here is some important information leading up to our last days of school, which are for Kindergarten students, Tuesday June 14th and for First Grade students, Thursday, June 16th.

JMS “FUN DAY”

We are planning a special year end event  Fun Day for students and staff on Friday, June 10th.  This will be a very active day for students with lots of movement activities and time outside. We will have several community partners joining us including the Milford Fire Dept, Police Dept.  The Milford Masons “Bikes for Books” Reading Challenge bike drawing will take place on that morning as well. Parent volunteers should have received a confirming your desire to participate.  Thank you for your help!

Please send your child to school that day with appropriate footwear and a water bottle.  I  also encourage parents to apply sunscreen prior to the start of school as the forecast calls for sun.  We will not apply this at school. A popcorn snack will be provided for all students mid morning. Pizza will be served to students for lunch that day. Each student will receive a special soft serve ice cream treat from Sundae Drive in the afternoon.

Even as this year comes to an end, we are looking towards next year.  As the last days of school approach, children will be feeling a wide range of emotions including sadness at saying goodbye to friends, anticipation of new adventures, and anxiety about upcoming transitions.  We have been busy registering our brand-new incoming  kindergarteners as we prepare to launch our first graders to Heron Pond.

Kindergarten Screening/Parent Orientation

I want to remind  all families of incoming kindergarten students to attend our Kindergarten Screening and Parent Orientation on June 15th and 16th. Parents of registered incoming kindergarten students should have registered for this event.   A third date for this event has been scheduled for August 1st.  This is an opportunity for our staff to get to know your child and for parents/guardians to get to know a little more about our school and the kindergarten program.  You don't want to miss it!

“STEP-UP” Day

Our first grade students will be participating in the annual Step -up Day.  Students will tour the Heron Pond school and meet with Heron Pond staff. This event is scheduled for Monday, June 13th. More information will follow. We are incredibly proud of our first grade students and know they are more than ready for this “next step” in their Milford School district journey.

After School Programs

It has come to our attention that several after school care programs that we transport students to are ending their programs prior to the last day(s) of school.   All Boys and Girls Club afterschool programs (Kindergarten Afterschool Program at JMS and the Grades 1-6  Boys and Girls Club After School Program) will end on Friday, June 10th, 2022.  Please provide us with your child’s updated dismissal plan for these last days of school.

Milford Girls on the Run

The Milford Girls on the Run Team is collecting items for children at the Pediatric Unit of Elliot Hospital. They will be collecting unused coloring books, crayons, markers, activities books, puzzle books, colored pencils until Friday, June 10th. Donations can be brought in to Jacques or Heron Pond

I can’t thank everyone enough for your endless hours of volunteering, chaperoning, reading, organizing, donating and doing whatever was necessary to support our students—both at home and at school.  Special thanks to our MES PTO who, as usual, went above and beyond the call of duty to provide whatever was necessary to add to our students’ already rich school experience. They have provided excellent leadership and have dedicated a great deal of time and support to provide beneficial activities, programs and events to our school.

Thank you for supporting your child’s education by being involved. Working together makes a big difference in the success of your child.  The support, encouragement and efforts of all individuals have provided the students with excellent learning opportunities and the students have met the challenges. Students have excelled in many areas, both within the school and beyond, and we are very proud of them.

I would like to wish you all the very best for the summer vacation and look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed, for what will be an exciting, new school year.

Sincerely,
Tim O'Connell
