Week 23

Greetings JMS Families,

The weather seems to be giving us whiplash, however, it has been wonderful to be outside on mild and sunny days! Thank you for reading this week’s update.  There is much to share with  you!

Kids Vote TOO!

As part of our civics engagement lessons here at Jacques Memorial, students are taking part in a national civics initiative Kids Vote Too, and selecting a name for our mascot the Jacques Jaguar. Student representatives will speak about their mascot choice during the Mr. O morning show at school. Our students are in the process of voting within their classrooms. We will share the final four with you prior March 14th.

Voting for our new mascot will take place on Tuesday, March 14th at the Town and District polls located at Milford High School.

Emergency Drills

Your child may have shared with you that we discussed our lockdown emergency drills at school recently. We practice a variety of emergency drills throughout the school year so that we are familiar with procedures in the unlikely event of an emergency.  This week our students and staff practiced our lockdown procedures. These lockdown  procedures help to maintain a secure and safe building in the unlikely event that we are visited by an “unwelcome stranger”.  This drill was conducted in coordination with Milford Police and Fire Departments.  If you have questions or concerns regarding our drill please contact me at the school.

Read Across America Week:

During the week of February 20th -24th, 2023 our students will participate in Read Across America.  Read Across America is an annual reading incentive and awareness program that encourages all students in every school community to celebrate reading the week of March 2nd, the birthday of the adored children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel  a.k.a. Dr. Seuss. The students and staff are encouraged to “dress-up” in celebration of different books written by  Dr. Seuss.  Please encourage your child to participate in this school-wide initiative to help motivate and excite everyone to read!
