Week 15
Good afternoon JMS families,
With the frigid temperatures and snowflakes drifting in the air it is obvious…Winter is here!
Winter Recess Reminder
With the snow and frigid temperatures, please remember to dress your child appropriately. Recess is outside every day that the “feels like” temperature is above 12 degrees. During the winter months, the following outerwear is expected for our students during recess:
-
Students are expected to wear all outerwear that comes from home (hats, gloves, mittens, snow pants, boots, etc.)
-
In order to play in the snow, children must be dressed from “head to toe”. Students are expected to wear snow pants and boots if they intend to play on any snow-covered area during recess. This includes the blacktop when it is snow covered or wet.
-
In the event that the black top is completely clear of snow and slush, students then may be on this location in their "everyday" shoes.
-
Students who do not have the appropriate outerwear during snow covered recess times will be asked to stay on the blacktop.
-
When conditions allow for it, sledding and snow toys are available for students to use on the playground.
Thank you for your support with this. These expectations limit the wet pants, shoes, and socks that students get when not dressed appropriately, and helps them avoid having those wet clothes for the duration of the school day. We also ask you to label their clothing. If clothing is labeled, we make every attempt to match it to its owner.
December Birthday Celebration
Our school-wide December birthday celebration is scheduled for Friday, December 16th.
Holiday Celebrations
There are several fun events and JMS traditions planned for our student’s next week. Please look for more information about these events from your child’s classroom teacher.
- Monday, December 20th - Grinch Day
All students and staff will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Students are encouraged to wear green or dress up like a Who from Whoville! Be on the lookout for the Grinch!
-
Tuesday, December 21st - Gingerbread Expo
Kindergarten students will celebrate the Gingerbread Expo. Kindergarten students will complete and present a collaborative gingerbread house STEM project.
-
Wednesday, December 22nd - Polar Express Day
First grade students and staff will celebrate Chris Van Allsburg's, Polar Express. First grade students are encouraged to wear pajama’s/bathrobes, bring a blanket for cozy reading and a canned/non-perishable food item or paper product for their “Ticket to Ride”. A special read-aloud of the story is planned for that afternoon.
JMS Kindness Challenge: As you may know, our motto at JMS is Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. Our school community (students and staff) have been issued a Kindness Challenge for the remaining weeks of school in December. Our goal is to engage in as many acts of kindness as we can! Each kind act will be recorded and displayed on a paper chain in the hallway at JMS. We would like to extend participation in the JMS Kindness Challenge to families. If your child demonstrates kindness at home or anywhere else in the community, please share the act of kindness with us by completing the Google Survey below:
Our goal is to reach 400 kind acts by Tuesday, December 20th. We will track our progress daily as we strive to make our goal. If we accomplish our goal we will celebrate with a special kindness event/celebration on Wednesday, December 21st.
Please find attached to this email the January Lunch Menu from MSD Food Service Department and a district approved flier from our community partners at Merrimack - Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce.
As the principal of the Jacques Memorial School, my door is always open to you. Together as a school community, let us enjoy and relish every moment of 2022 with our students because time passes by so quickly as if 'in the blink of an eye!' I appreciate and thank you for your continued support in all our endeavors to ensure your child’s academic success. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to one and all!
Sincerely,
Tim O’Connell
Principal
