Week 24

Good evening JMS Families,

Winter is back! I hope that you and your family get to enjoy some traditional outdoor winter activities during winter recess. If you are not the outdoor type then warming-up with a good book and reading with your child is great way to spend some time together. Thank you for reading this week's JMS parent update!

PTO Read-thon Update:

We are over halfway through our PTO Read-a-thon. I am AMAZED at how well our students have done! As of today, our first grade students have read for 31,520 minutes and our kindergarten students 14,675 minutes! The Read-a-thon will end on the last day of February, Tuesday, February 28th 2023! Keep reading and logging those minutes!

Thank you all for helping make this fundraiser a huge success, we could not have done it without you!

Kids Vote TOO!

As part of our civics engagement lessons here at Jacques Memorial, students are taking part in a national civics initiative Kids Vote Too, and selecting a name for our mascot the Jacques Jaguar. Student representatives will speak about their mascot choice during the Mr. O morning show at school.

Our final four choices are: Paws, Foxy, Jellybean, or Jordan.

Voting for our new mascot will take place on Tuesday, March 14th at the Town and District polls located at Milford High School. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Read Across America Week:

Students and staff have enjoyed participating in Read Across America. Students and staff have been celebrating the joy of reading and the gift of literacy throughout Jacques Memorial school. This afternoon students were treated to a fun filled Dr. Seuss magic show performed by New England magician Mr. Tommy James. This performance educated students about the wonderful world or reading books and highlighted the works of Dr. Seuss.

Read Across America Week

Due to the possible snow tomorrow,

students may choose to wear their character outfit or PJ's on Friday.

Thursday 2/23: Character Day

Dr. Seuss has so many interesting characters that he writes about.

Dress as your favorite character from any book you have read!

Friday 2/24: “I Am Not Going to Get Up Today!”

Wear your pajamas and bring in your favorite book!

Kindergarten Registration - Kickoff!

We are excited to announce our 2023-24 Kindergarten Registration Kickoff! This event is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, March 9th, 2023, from 5:30-7:00 pm in the JMS Multi-purpose Room. JMS staff will be on hand to assist with the registration process, give tours of our kindergarten classroom, and answer any questions.

The following documents are required to complete the registration process:

Proof of Residency (i.e., home purchase agreement, rental/lease agreement, utility bill, with parent/guardian name and Milford address.)
Original Birth Certificate with a raised seal.
Updated immunization/physical and proof of a scheduled physical within one year of enrollment.

Lost & Found:

Our lost and found is bursting at the seams with hats, mittens and many other items. We will display these items for the children to see before the Winter Recess break. Any items left, will be donated to a local charity.

Winter Recess:

There will be No School for students the week of February 27th - March 3rd, 2023.

I am thoroughly convinced that Jacques Memorial has the greatest students and staff in the world! I love everything about our school. I love our work ethic. I love our kindhearts.
