Week 30

Greetings JMS Families,

The days seem longer, the flowers are beginning to bloom, the grass is growing, and the warm weather is lingering.   As the weather gets warmer, students become more anxious for the start of summer break.   With that said, it is also important that students continue to work to meet the academic and behavior expectations everyday.

2023-24 Class Placement:  As we approach the end of the 2022-23 school year, we begin to plan for the next year. Jacques Memorial staff will begin to develop tentative groupings of students for the 2023-24 school year.

I would like to extend the opportunity for parents to be involved in this process.  Your input as a parent is very important.  While we cannot honor a parent request for an assignment with a particular teacher, nor with a particular student, we do encourage you to provide me with a letter with any significant information about your son or daughter that you feel should be considered. Your letter should  describe  your child’s unique situation or the type of learning environment that you feel may best suit your child.

We request that any such comments regarding your son or daughter’s learning style or preferences be submitted in writing (email) to me by Friday, April 28th.  Please look for a letter from me to home this Friday with more information.

Bikes For Books:  Bikes for Books is a reading incentive program created by the Masons for children in elementary schools in order to help support literacy programs in our schools. The Milford Masonic Temple Association, under the direction of Artie Dunham, is sponsoring this program at both the Heron Pond Elementary School and the Jacques Memorial School.

The Bikes for Books program is straightforward.  Students are asked to read as many books as they can from now until Friday, June 2nd Students fill out an entry form, for each book that they read.

Winners will be announced on Friday, June 9th 2023 during the morning show. Good Luck!

Autism Awareness - April is Autism Awareness Month.  Jacques Memorial School is participating in a fundraiser to support the research and families that have children with Autism. We hope to raise funds and  make a donation to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism (https://www.flutiefoundation.org/)  Join the TLC Program at JMS in showing your understanding, acceptance, and love of autism by buying a puzzle piece. These will be sent home with students later this week.  All puzzle pieces will be displayed in the hallway at Jaquar Junction.  So far we have raised $105.

If you would like to join our fundraising efforts, a donation of any amount to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism will be collected and accepted throughout the month of April. Our collective fundraising goal is to raise a total of $500.  If our school community reaches this goal, several staff have agreed to color their hair blue on Friday, April 21st, live on the Morning Show.  Thank you in advance for supporting this cause!

Spring Book Fair - We will be hosting the spring MES PTO Scholastic book fair the week of April 17- 21st.  We are looking for parent volunteers to help make this fundraising event a success.  We will need parent volunteers  that week from 11:00 -1:00 pm daily to assist students with purchasing books.  Family/community shopping time will be available on Friday, April 21st from 9:00 -11:00 am.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact our Media Generalist, Ms. Andrea Wyka ([email protected]) and MES PTO President Mrs. Jenny Garby by Wednesday, April 12th.

Early Release - Students will be dismissed early on Wednesday, April 19. Students will dismissed at 12:45 after lunch has been served. Please make any dismissal plan changes using the Parent Pick Patrol System.

Thank you, again, for your great support of students and staff.  We are thrilled to have you as part of our school community!

Sincerely,

Tim O’Connell
