Autism Awareness - April is Autism Awareness Month.  Jacques Memorial School is participating in a fundraiser to support the research and families that have children with Autism. We hope to raise funds and  make a donation to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism (https://www.flutiefoundation.org/)  Join the TLC Program at JMS in showing your understanding, acceptance, and love of autism by buying a puzzle piece. These will be sent home with students later this week.  All puzzle pieces will be displayed in the hallway at Jaquar Junction.

As of this afternoon, we have raised a total of $305.00! Our collective fundraising goal is to raise a total of $500.  If our school community reaches this goal, several staff have agreed to color their hair blue on Friday, April 21st, live on the Morning Show.  Thank you in advance for supporting this cause!

2023-24 Classroom Placement - As we approach the end of the 2021-22 school year, we begin to plan for the next year. At the end of April, Jacques Memorial staff will begin to develop tentative groupings of students for the 2022-23 school year.

We use a multi-step process that includes reviewing student learning profiles and learning needs. We strive to build classes that are balanced in terms of student number, gender balance, academic achievement, special instructional needs, and social relations. We involve all the staff members who work with your child in this process. The responsibility for class placement and the final decision is the principals.

I would like to extend the opportunity for parents to be involved in this process.  Your input as a parent is very important.  While I cannot honor a parent's request for an assignment with a particular teacher, nor with a particular student, I do encourage you to provide me with a letter with any significant information about your son or daughter that you feel should be considered. Your letter should describe your child’s unique situation or the type of learning environment that you feel may best suit your child.

I request that any such comments regarding your son or daughter’s learning style or preferences be submitted in writing (e-mail) to me by Friday, April 28th to ensure that your input will be considered as part of the placement process.  Your information, along with input from your son or daughter’s classroom teacher and other staff members, will be utilized to help to create an optimal class placement.  Once the placement lists are finalized, it cannot be changed.

Spring Recess - There will be no school April 24th - 28th for the spring recess.  The office will be open daily Monday - Friday 9:00 - 2:00 pm.

Please find attached to this email the lunch menu for May and a district approved flier from the Milford Junior Spartans.

As always, please contact us when questions or concerns come up. Jacques Memorial School  prides itself on providing strong partnerships between our teachers, school administration and our students and their families. We have a caring faculty that is dedicated to the success of your children!

Sincerely,
Tim O’Connell
