Week 37
Greetings JMS families,
It is so hard to believe that I am writing my final parent update of the school year! It seems like such a short time ago we were welcoming our students on the first day of school. It has been a wonderful school year and our students have made tremendous growth.
As our academic year draws to a close, we have much to celebrate and many happy memories. This is a time when we reflect upon the growth and progress of all our students. Children will be feeling a wide range of emotions including sadness at saying goodbye to friends, anticipation of new adventures, and anxiety about upcoming transitions. It is important that we embrace change as positive and take the time to celebrate the achievements made by our students.
Speaking of change, a huge acknowledgement and thank you to Mrs. Brenda Martinez, kindergraten teacher who will be retiring at he end of the school year. Mrs. Martinez was first employed by the Milford School District in 1999 which makes 24 years of service to our school and community. Mrs. Martinez has seen a great deal of change in our school, working alongside many educators, and has had a huge impact on countless children who have had the privilege of being taught by Mrs. Martinez. Congratulations to Mrs. Martinez on her well deserved retirement!
JMS Library Books: It is that time of year when we are looking to have all of our library books returned and accounted for. Ms. Wyka our Librarian/Media Generalist has been diligent about sending regular notices home regarding any overdue books throughout the school year. As stated in her notices, all books are due Friday, June 9th. If a book has been lost or damaged beyond repair, parents/guardians are expected to replace the book. Bills for missing or damaged books are due by Thursday, June 22nd.
PTO Meeting: The monthly meeting of the MES PTO will be held “in person” tonight Wednesday, June 7th 2023 at 7:00 PM in the JMS Library. All JMS parents/guardians are welcome to attend! Please join us! If you would like to attend virtually that is still an option. You can do so by clicking the ZOOM link below:
JMS Fun Day: A highlight of every school year is the annual end-of-year Fun Day event. Plans are underway for a JMS Fun Day scheduled for Friday, June 9th. Fun Day is a special day when our students and staff celebrate the school year and engage in fun games and activities.
-
Please have your child wear appropriate footwear, (sneakers are highly recommended). A water bottle, labeled with your child’s name) is also recommended.
-
Sunscreen and bug spray will not be applied by staff at school. Please apply this prior to coming to school that morning.
-
Fun Day will also be our last Popcorn Friday. Popcorn will be provided for all students for FREE!
-
Winners of the Bikes for Books Program will be announced during the morning show.
Student Social Strengths Screener: Jacques Memorial School is committed to every student's academic growth as well as their social emotional and behavioral growth. It is our shared goal that our students develop the skills required to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships and make responsible decisions. As part of this process, we are asking all parents to complete a Student Social Strengths Screener. This is the same brief survey we asked parents to complete earlier inthe school year. This survey asks several questions regarding your student’s social skills such as responsibility, learning habits, and peer/adult relationships.
Classroom teachers will also complete the screener. This will help us measure the impact of our social emotional programs and support that we provide for our students. Please click on the link below and take some time to complete this short questionnaire. We are hoping to get 100% parent participation. Thank you in advance.

Last Day(s) School: Please note that the last day of school for kindergarten students will be Wednesday, June 14. The last day of school for first grade students will be Friday, June 16th.
Lunch Account Balances: Please find attached to this email, a letter from Mrs. Jane Fortson, Business Administrator for the Milford School District regarding your child’s lunch account balance.
Thank you so much for this incredible school year. It has been our honor to work with your children this year. We're so proud of their growth. We will miss our first grade students so much and know they will continue to grow in leaps and bounds as they move onto second grade at Heron Pond. We look forward to seeing our kindergarten students and families next year.
I want to thank our teachers and staff for an incredible school year. Together, they provide our students with a beginning to their public school experience that ignite a love of learning and school. Ms. Brigagliano and I couldn't be more grateful to work with such an incredible team.
Thank you, families, for your partnership this year. Thank you for supporting your child’s education by being involved. Working together makes a big difference in the success of your child. The support, encouragement and efforts of all individuals have provided the students with excellent learning opportunities and the students have met the challenges. Students have excelled in many areas, both within the school and beyond, and we are very proud of them.
Sincerely,
Tim O’Connell
Principal
