Week 6

Fall is in the air!   I have much to share with you in this week’s update.  Thank you for taking the time to read!

Tardiness & Morning Meeting:  We are always happy to see students arrive at school, regardless of the time, however it is important to stress that being on time means students do not miss the critical learning that takes place at the start of each day. Likewise, there is a strong correlation between student success and regular attendance. We really want your child to be a part of the daily activities at Jacques Memorial School, contribute each day to the class culture of learning, and just to be a part of the fun! Please make every effort to have your child arrive at school on time.

A key component of our social emotional learning Responsive Classroom program at Jacques Memorial School is the Morning Meeting.  This is a wonderful beginning to your child's school day.  Morning Meeting supports the development of your child's ability to build and sustain friendships, helps set a positive tone for school, excites them for the learning ahead, and improves their ability to communicate socially and academically.  It is important that your child arrives on time for this important daily learning opportunity.

Transportation Survey:  Jacques Memorial School and Heron Pond Elementary School are exploring ways to make our daily bus transportation more efficient and effective.  If your child rides the bus, please take some time to complete this brief survey.  JMS Bus Survey

P.A.W.S.: This week we will continue to practice our school wide expectations.  Students will work to be safe, kind and responsible in the classroom, lunchroom, school bus, playground, hallways and restroom. For this month any students who earn a P.A.W.S.  award during the month of October will earn an opportunity to win a special Principal Playground Party  and be invited to a special walking field trip and visit Keyes Memorial Park playground!

Halloween Parade Update:  Jacques Memorial School will be celebrating Halloween later this month.  Each classroom will be hosting a class celebration, which may include games, special read-alouds, and crafts.  Further information regarding the specific class festivities will be communicated through your child’s classroom teacher.  Please keep in mind we will be adhering to the Wellness policy during these festivities.

Our Halloween parade is scheduled for Friday, October 28th at 1:30 PM.  Students are encouraged to wear a costume during this event.  Please have your child bring their costume to school bagged and labeled with their name.  Please note that children are not permitted to bring sharp edged props such as sticks, swords, knives, weapons, or wear costumes that feature blood and gore, etc. Families  are welcome to come  to see our students and staff march  down Elm St. and around Union Square.
